چکیده
A rotating biological contactor (RBC) is a type of attached-growth wastewater treatment system and widely used technology. It employs series discs to support microbial growth promote the removal pollutants from wastewater. RBC recognized for its simplicity design, high reliability, low energy consumption. has been in various applications, small-scale decentralized systems large municipal plants. The current review provides an overview bioreactors, design parameters, factors that influence performance, such as hydraulic retention time, sludge organic loading rate, disc rotational speed, temperature. also highlights advantages disadvantages RBCs compared with other technologies discusses their role sustainable environmental performance. future prospects are discussed, including integration technologies, membrane filtration potential use resource recovery. explores application provide solutions management rural remote areas. Overall, remains promising option effective efficient treatment, particularly situations where simplicity, consumption desired.

Municipal Wastewater Treatment With Rotating Biological Contactors A review of factors influencing the efficiency of RBCs
Rotating biological contactors (RBCs) constitute a very unique and superior alternative for biodegradable matter and nitrogen removal on account of their feasibility, simplicity of design and operation, low land area requirement, low energy consumption, low operating and maintenance cost and treatment efficiency. The present review of RBCs focus on parameters that affect performance like rotati...
متن کاملA Scale-up Design Procedure for Rotating Biological Contactors
A scale-up design procedure, based on a new physical mass transfer (PMT) model, whichdescribes the performance, for aerobic rotating biological contactors (RBC’s) is developed. This scale-up procedure can be used to determine the disc surface area needed to prevent an oxygen limitation or to obtain a specific degree of treatment. In contrast to the empirical, and most previous RBC performance m...
متن کاملReconsidering Rotating Biological Contactors
There are many domestic wastewater treatment processes in use today. Generally, they are all biological systems and they may be broadly categorized as either fixed film processes or suspended growth processes. During the 1970s and early 1980s, the rotating biological contactor process (RBC), a particularly efficient fixed film process, became popular. However, the primary manufacturer of RBCs i...
متن کاملLow-ammonia niche of ammonia-oxidizing archaea in rotating biological contactors of a municipal wastewater treatment plant
The first step of nitrification is catalysed by both ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and archaea (AOA), but physicochemical controls on the relative abundance and function of these two groups are not yet fully understood, especially in freshwater environments. This study investigated ammonia-oxidizing populations in nitrifying rotating biological contactors (RBCs) from a municipal wastewater t...
متن کاملDairy Wastewater Treatment using Three-Stage Rotating Biological Contactor (NRBC)
Dairy wastewater is enriched in organic matter (about 45-72 g/l, COD) and also contains biodegradable carbohydrates. A three-stage system, NRBC was fabricated as a bench scale unit for lab experiments, to remove organic carbon from the whey. The fabricated NRBC had several advantages, such as quick start-up, high biomass concentration and was additionally able to handle high organic loading rat...
